I met Susanna a few months ago to discuss her upcoming wedding. As we were chatting I discovered that Susanna was an artist and when she described her style of painting, I couldn’t help but think of Charles Sheeler. He was an American photographer/painter and just two days prior to my meeting with Susanna, I had encountered his amazing double exposure photographs. I usually spend an hour after my photography class at ICP perusing through the school’s expansive photography book collection and reading about the work of a photographer or two. Charles Sheeler just happened to be my subject that week.
Susanna was of course very familiar with Charles Sheeler’s work and we could have easily slipped into a long conversation about art but given the purpose of our meeting, we veered back into wedding talk. Nevertheless, I had a feeling that my photographing this wedding was meant to be.
And it was. We had a spectacular March day and ended up parading the guests outdoors for an impromptu outdoor ceremony. Susanna’s and Rafi’s wedding was simply beautiful – filled with music, culture and exuberance.
P.S. I also got a chance to see some of Susanna’s paintings in person – see 11 photos down. Her work is phenomenal.
