One of the things I love most about photography is its ability to freeze time. Our brains work in such interesting ways – when we see a photo, it’s as if we’re transported back to the past – we can almost hear the sounds, smell the place and feel the emotions we felt at that precise moment. This is why I love photographing and documenting such important times in people’s lives.
Michelle and Sebastian are at a pretty major transition point in their lives. Michelle and Sebastian have both lived in New York City for a long time – they went to school here, worked here, met here and fell in love here. But they’re headed off very soon to start a new life together in Nigeria. Yup, Nigeria. Pretty big change of scene from New York City. Before they head off to Africa, they decided to plan a very casual wedding celebration. After a quick ceremony at City Hall, we spent the afternoon wandering across the Brooklyn Bridge over to Dumbo before heading back to Williamsburg for some drinks and cupcakes with friends. I feel really lucky not only to have documented their wedding day but also to have captured a few moments of their life together in New York City. Congrats Michelle & Sebastian and safe travels!
